Many

There were many reasons why Lark chose to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder. He was drawn to the university’s excellent psychology program, and being at the same school as his sibling Kylie was an attractive bonus.

Lark first came to Bread+Belonging on Kylie’s urging. “Kylie would go on and on about this super cool club they were going to and loved so much,” he said. “I was wary about it being a church thing, but I trusted Kylie, so I gave it a try.” As a military family, Lark and his siblings moved frequently growing up, and Bread+Belonging’s steady, consistent presence has been really supportive for him. “It’s nice to feel like you have a strong community,” Lark comments. “Here with B+B, there is a strong community, and I know I can always find someone if I need to talk, and not just people of my own age.”

That strong community has helped Lark in many ways. He’s become more accustomed to interacting with diverse people, and values having a regular place to eat with others each week.  After a year-long hunt he even found his current campus job through a recommendation from another B+B student. Bread+Belonging has also helped Lark build a positive relationship to faith and to people of faith. “I still remain agnostic,” he explains. “It’s been a long journey to get more comfortable with faith, but it’s been rewarding for me. B+B has been incredibly helpful for that, and I am really grateful.”

Lark really connected with Bread+Belonging’s emphasis on caring for one another and the wider community. “B+B follows the message of helping people, no matter who they are. That is something I care about. That’s another big reason I wanted to be a psych major and what I’m going to do with social work. Helping people is important to me. B+B and St. Aidan’s just do that…I’ve learned so much just being here.”
