Rocketry
What follows is our 2026 spring appeal letter. You can give today at www.breadandbelonging.org/give. Thank you!
Dear Friends of Bread+Belonging,
Your support for Bread+Belonging is making an impact on campus, helping us sustain a sanctuary where students in Boulder can explore faith and vocation within a caring and supportive community. As we celebrate another successful year of ministry, we are grateful for you and the many ways you make a difference in the lives of students like Josh.
Josh loves building things, learning, and all things that fly. Putting those three things together led him to study aerospace engineering and applied math, and to serving as a team lead for the University of Colorado Sounding Rocket Lab, a competitive student rocketry group on campus. Their next goal? Designing a vehicle they can launch into space next year!
Josh grew up in a Lutheran congregation where he experienced a very welcoming and loving way of being the church. But in the thick of rigorous demands of his academic work it was hard to find time to connect with God and his faith. This year, Josh and his partner were looking for a faith community they could explore together, and they found Bread+Belonging. “It’s been a really great time for me personally to connect with God during the week,” Josh reflects. “It’s a change for me to step back and see the bigger picture, to look at this community, to look at how God has brought these people together.” Tuesday nights have become a refuge for Josh, a space to decompress and connect with people outside the aerospace program.
Bread+Belonging has also given Josh a place to connect his love of building things with his faith. At Bread+Belonging’s service day with the local Habitat for Humanity chapter this spring, he loved teaching other B+B students about tools and connecting to the people who will eventually live in the homes they worked on. “There’s just something sacred about building a home where you make memories with the people you love,” Josh says. “Even to have a small part in providing something like that for someone else is really, really special.”
Your generosity helps students like Josh to connect with God and use their gifts to care for others, and we are grateful. As we begin preparations for the coming school year, we invite you to consider a gift of $25, $150, $500, or even $1000 or more. Thank you for your partnership in caring for students on campus!
In gratitude,
The Rev. Monica Butler
